Lifestyle: The Sports Fan

So you're an armchair quarterback and you never miss an episode of SportsCenter? You live, breathe and eat sports all year long? Well, let us give you a few tips on how you can enjoy Vegas without missing a minute of the action in the sports world.

Q: Are there any major sporting events held in Vegas?

A: You've come to the right place. Vegas is considered the boxing capital of the world because of the number of high-profile fights that take place here. Check out our sports calendar to see what's on the horizon. If rodeo is your thing, the world's most prestigious rodeo event: The National Finals Rodeo  takes place at the Thomas & Mack Center every December. Another event for rodeo fans is the Professional Bull Riders World Finals, held here every October. Vegas also is a regular stop for the NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car series and the PGA Tour, and you can even catch a preseason NBA game or sit rinkside at the NHL's Frozen Fury event once a year. In addition, several sports teams have made Las Vegas their home, including the Las Vegas 51s (the Los Angeles Dodgers' AAA affiliate) and the Las Vegas Wranglers East Coast League hockey team. If college sports are more your thing, the city of Las Vegas showcases the Mountain West Conference as well as the Las Vegas Bowl. And the Reebok Big Time tournament, held in Vegas every summer, gives high school basketball players from across the country a chance to demonstrate their skills to college scouts.

Q: Where is a good place to watch sports on TV and grab a cocktail and a bite to eat?

A: When it comes to sports bars, ESPN Zone is the king. Where else can you sit in a "zone throne," eat and watch the game in total comfort? NASCAR Cafe and Blondies are a few more good choices. If you want to do a little betting, you can watch sports in any of the sports books in town, and many have eateries located nearby. For example, the Sports Deluxe bar at the Hard Rock Hotel is located right next to the sports book.

Q: Where can I get into the game myself? Is there anywhere to play sports in Vegas?

A:ESPN Zone has a mini bowling alley, virtual reality sports games, video games and more. If you feel the need for speed, we can hook you up with one of our tours where you can drive a race car or check out Pole Position Raceway where you can race karts in their indoor state-of-the-art facility. If skydiving is your thing, but you don't want to actually jump out of a plane, try Vegas Indoor Skydiving. Vegas also has several bowling alleys in some of the hotels. Try your hand scaling the climbing wall at GameWorks next to MGM Grand where you will find a plethora of different interactive games. There's no shortage of things to do here.

Q: Where are the best sports books in town?

A: You want sports books? We've got plenty of them! A couple of the favorites in town are at Las Vegas Hilton and the Wynn. Two others that can be found at the top of the list are Mandalay Bay and Caesars. If you still haven't found exactly what you're looking for, take a look at our list of sports books in town to find something that suits your needs.
